he present paper is of interest in the general framework of the concern regarding the history of the emergence of the Romanian armed forces intended for internal affairs and, specifically, the study regarding the evolution of the institution of the Gendarmerie from its early forms, going through the ante‑, inter‑ and post‑war period and up to the contemporary era. In this context and in accordance with the objectives regarding the history of science and technology, the author considered it at least interesting to address, in the present work, the topic of the historical evolution of the Gendarmerie from the perspective of the technical endowment, highlighting the key moments as well as the key characters (Romanian inventors) with an impact on this evolution,to be able to understand the positive and the less positive decisions in this regard, all these aspects currently being helpful in designing internal security and the future course of action in the face of contemporary world challenges. Moreover, contemporary military strategies have takenover from previous strategies a series of elements of continuity, such as the approach to risks and threats, reconsidering their scale in an allied context, the continuation of essential endowment programs and plans to transform the structure of military forces and to ensure national order and security.
