140 de ani de la naşterea inginerului Dumitru Marcu, specialist cu o activitate remarcabilă în domeniul construcţiilor (140 years since the birth of engineer Dumitru Marcu, specialist with a major activity in constructions)

Engineer Dumitru Marcu (1884–1942) was one of the great Romanian specialists in the construction field, with a great professional activity carried out, especially, in the interwar period. He became known since the construction of the first bridges with reinforced concrete structurein Romania, he designed a large number of civil buildings of major importance and was one of the first specialists who introduced reinforced concrete elements in the design and execution of the church and cathedral structures. He worked with some great Romanian engineers and architects from the interwar period, among whom we can mention: engineers Tiberiu Eremie and Aurel A. Beleş, architects Petre Antonescu and Arghir Culina. He designed important churches and cathedrals in ourcountry (the metropolitan cathedrals of Timişoara and Cluj‑Napoca, the archiepiscopal cathedral of Alba‑Iulia) and a significant number of buildings of national importance (The Palace of the Faculty of Law and the Ambassador Hotel in Bucharest, the building of the “Mihai Eminescu”Central University Library in Iaşi). The valuable professional activity of engineer Dumitru Marcu recommends him to be better known in contemporary society, but especially by the young generations of specialists.
